The Homeland

Salvadoran Heritage

Hola, my name is Diana, I am the founder of Ocata and 110% Salvadoran. In my culture, food is an expression of affection, and in a modern world of nutrient optimization, I found myself craving for the flavors of home. Salvadoran crema became my fix, it's an easy companion for any delicious meal and a staple in Salvadoran cuisine.

new beginnings

My Tios & Tias

When the Salvadoran Civil War engulfed El Salvador, all of my mom's siblings sought refuge and began a new life in Houston, Texas. Despite the hardships that came with starting all over again, sharing meals as a family continued to root us in the joy of our culture.

Crema Delivery

Once we moved to Texas, we relished whenever someone came back from visiting El Salvador. Without fail they would stuff their luggage with bags of crema and other delicacies. These trips were rare due to the ongoing violence in El Salvador during that time, so having a bag of Salvadoran crema truly felt like tasting treasure.

I never forgot this feeling and through the years couldn't quite find a Salvadoran crema in the U.S. that fully matched the taste and joy of Salvadoran culture.

Now this is Crema

During a visit to El Salvador (while of course enjoying crema) the crazy idea hit me that I could make crema to share with the world! Like Don Quixote I set off on a quest to create the perfect creamy and tangy flavor that fully captured my fond memories.

I kept at it with my mom tasting each batch until one day she shook her head in approval and said "Esto si es crema" ("now this is crema").

I didn't compromise on ingredients, avoiding palm oil, artificial coloring, and any unnecessary fillers

  • Perfect Thickness

I kept the beloved tangy & creaminess, but tweaked the thickness to be a little lighter so it makes the perfect drizzle or salad dressing

  • 100% Salvi-American

Celebrating my broader community by mixing flavors like tomatillo with the beloved Salvadoran style crema to create a delicious combo
